New Postage Rates Now In Effect

From James Bucki, About.com GuideJanuary 29, 2009

Good news! The "Big Three" in mail and package delivery are not asking for a government bailout. The bad news: Price increases are now in effect for all three. United Parcel Service (UPS), Federal Express (FedEx) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) have put new pricing structures in place that are now in effect. Not all services experienced an increase in prices. For example, the US Post Office increased prices on their Two Day Priority Mail service, but did not increase the cost of a First Class piece of mail. List below are links to each carriers pricing and rate guides that include downloadable and printable rate charts.

Now is the time for you to evaluate what services you use most frequently and take into consideration the amount of money you spend on each. You can gather this information from your past shipping history. With the new pricing structures it may be to your advantage to switch carriers. Be careful though, services between the carriers provide different delivery schedules and restrictions. Make sure you are comparing apples-to-apples and your customers will get the delivery service they expect.

The end of January also marks the end of DHL's United States domestic delivery operations. But don't despair; DHL is still servicing the international delivery arena. So, if you do a substantial volume of international shipping, you should also check out DHL's rates and services.
