Even in a small office, employees should be provided a separate area to take a break or eat their lunch. A break room will improve employee morale and job satisfaction. The break room does not have to be extravagant or lavish. Most importantly, a break room must provide a place for employees to gather, socialize and relax. The bottom-line is that it does not have to be expensive.

Break room furnishings include:

  • Tables and chairs - enough to seat an entire shift of employees (required)
  • Microwave Oven (required)
  • Refrigerator (not required, but very nice to provide)
  • Water cooler/heater
  • Coffee pot
  • Cupboards
  • Sink
  • Toaster
